Bar Top
Home Up Bar Railing Bar Tile Top

Not a single thing is done in this basement that doesn't turn into a big project.  In this case even the bar top was two big projects - the curving stone tile surface surrounded completely by a birdseye maple railing.

Here's the short version of the bar top construction.  All of this is covered in ridiculous detail in the bar top and railing pages.
The top was reinforced with five steel splines and then laminated with cement backer board before tiling.

Details are in the tile top page.

Each tile is then custom cut and "curved" for a specific location on the bar.

Details are in the tile top page.

The railing was created in parallel around the circumference of the table by joining many segments and two layers of birdseye maple.

Details are in the Bar Railing page.

The maple is then carefully shaped, sanded, and finished.
