Sanding and Finishing
Home Up

Nothing too interesting here.  Sanding took more than a week because of some problems, but I don't have any photos of it.

This is the drum sander that is used to get rid of any lipping that is left from nailing the floor down.
This tool, the floor edger, is used to get around the perimeter of the floor where the drum sander can't reach.  It takes a startling amount of wood off in a short amount of time and is very tiring to use.  I wish I had one of these for general use!
This tool is a 17" floor buffer that is used to really smooth things out before finishing.  Brenda got particularly good at handling this. (It's not easy.)  We also used it for intercoat abrasion while finishing.
The finished result.  Several people have cautioned that a hardwood floor in a basement won't stay for long without cupping.  So far it is perfect due to the concrete seal, raised floor with air space, rosin paper, and constant dehumidification in the summer.
